Washington D.C. Pictures (85 Slides) [Page 1 of 1]
This the the Americas, North and South.
Good 'Ol U.S. of A. The third largest country in the world after Russia and Canada. The capitol, Washington D.C., is located in the upper right.
A map of the downtownish area. Washington is not actually in any state. It is the District of Columbia (thus the D.C.). There are no congressmen, senators, or governors for Washington DC.
Dupont circle is a popular neighbourhood hangout. On any given day at least a few people will be there playing chess. And yes, Dupont circle really is a circle, who knew they had traffic circles in the U.S.?
A Brood X cicada. This guy spent 17 years growing as a larvae underground. Sadly, his above ground life is pretty short.

The D.C. Metro. It was clean, safe, and about $1.20 a ride. I prefer the Seoul subway though.

Now I think this one is a little prettier. Yay for zoom lenses.
Is it better in color or B&W?
Some generic Washington D.C. architecture and street scene.
This big obelisk is the Washington Monument, it is about the center of the National Mall and ties together the four corners of the Capitol, the Whitehouse, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Tidal Basin. Too bad there is no viewing deck, I bet you could see alot.
For those of you that don't live in the U.S., this is a strip mall. One big building with alot of outward facings stores. Mostly found in the suburbs.

Some nice subway action. I believe this was the Dupont Circle station. I love trains, above ground or below!
Heading down to the subway stop. The subway in D.C. seems deeper to me than the other metros I have been one. At least they have escalators, something Prague and most Seoul stops are lacking.
The Tenleytown station. D.C. was late in getting a metro, the first train didn't run until 1976.

Two medium range ballistic nuclear missiles. The one on the left is a Soveit SS-20, an American Pershing-II is on the right. Both types of these missiles were eliminated and banned from use in the late 80's by a joint U.S. - Soviet treaty.
Ben's Chili Bowl. Somewhat of a landmark. It's been there for fifty years. I think they stopped cleaning a decade ago though. Great food and a good jukebox. The

Me on the couch at my sister's house.
I can think of very few countries where madmen are freely allowed to roam the streats of the capitol while personally insulting the president. Isn't freedom great?

A nice wide interior shot of the Dulles annex to the National Air and Space museum. IMHO, the annex is better than the original museum on the mall.
Outside of the National Air and Space Museum on a typical school trip weekday.
These little Panda guys are all over the city. Apparently local artists adopt the statue then paint it as they see fit.
An incredibly interesting plane at the National Air and Space Museum on the mall. This plane was used to help map the Antarctic (thats the one by the South pole).
